An op-ed was published today in Dagens Industri in which Bijan Fahimi, CEO of the Tellus Group, discusses how the Swedish school system can be improved through less regulation and more innovation.

Fahimi believes that the school of the future does not need more rules and higher costs, but rather more freedom, innovation, and smart use of technology. • Deregulate teachers' working hours: give skilled teachers the opportunity to teach more, including at other schools or through distance learning.
  • Use technology wisely: AI and digital assistants can reduce the administrative burden and free up time for teaching.
  • Focus on productivity rather than underemployment: let improved working conditions and higher wages be driven by increased efficiency.
  • Modernize the regulations: enable schools across the country—especially in rural areas—to have access to qualified teachers.
