Bijan Fahimi in a GP debate: The Liberals need fewer left-wing ideas—more freedom of choice and technological optimism

An op-ed was published today in Göteborgs-Posten in which Bijan Fahimi, CEO and founder of the Tellus Group, outlines five paths forward for the Liberals under the leadership of their new party leader, Simona Mohamsson.

Fahimi believes that the party’s deep crisis may also be its greatest opportunity. Low expectations open the door to innovative thinking and to regaining relevance in the issues that shape today’s public debate.

In the article, he highlights five areas where the Liberals can raise their profile:

  • Relevance to the key issues: migration, crime, and energy policy.
  • An electoral alliance with the Center Party: to increase our impact and protect both parties from falling below the parliamentary threshold.
  • A libertarian education policy: defending independent schools and freedom of choice as drivers of quality.
  • Technological optimism: viewing AI and digitalization once again as opportunities for learning and development, rather than as threats.
  • A more focused European policy: with an emphasis on innovation, energy, defense, and strategic raw materials.

“Dear Simona—the party’s deep crisis, the outside world’s low expectations, and your hopeless situation are your best assets. Surprise everyone with your relevance and courage. You have everything to gain and nothing to lose,” writes Bijan Fahimi in the article.
