In the debate on education, it is often claimed that independent schools inflate grades to attract students. In reality, however, it is difficult to find evidence that this is the case—the studies said to indicate this rarely allow for any firm conclusions to be drawn about differences between various school operators. On the other hand, there are good reasons to review the grading system and how grades are used, for example, in college admissions. This is according to Erik Lakomaa, who holds a Ph.D. in economics and is a researcher at the EHFF Stockholm School of Economics.
