Starting in September, Tellusgruppen AB will take over operations of the Lilla blå elefanten preschool in Enskede, which is run as a staff cooperative. The deal marks the company’s second acquisition of a cooperative business in August.

The Tellus Group’s new preschool is located right next to the existing cultural preschools, Melodin and Fiolen. Lilla blå elefanten will therefore be able to integrate naturally into the program and foster significant collaboration among the three preschools.

“Previously, we only acquired businesses organized as limited liability companies. In the space of a month, we’ve completed two acquisitions: the parent cooperative Ryttis in northwestern Stockholm and now the staff cooperative Lilla blå elefanten in southern Stockholm,” says Bijan Fahimi, CEO of the Tellus Group. Increasing regulatory red tape and declining financial compensation have made it difficult for small businesses in the preschool industry to survive—especially in the nonprofit sector. This is an unfortunate development. As a larger company, we have a more efficient organization and can therefore handle these types of challenges differently, which creates new opportunities for us.

For Tellusbarn’s operations in Tallkrogen, the deal means that three small units with a total of approximately 60 educational spots can be integrated. This will allow the benefits of a small-scale operation to be combined with more stable operations, including a shared studio, access to special education teachers, and robust administrative support.
