A new report from the Swedish Association of Independent Schools shows that the number of students in independent schools continues to rise. Just over 384,000 children and students currently attend an independent preschool or school, which corresponds to 19 percent of the just over 2 million children and students in Swedish preschools and schools.

At the same time, satisfaction levels among students, parents, and teachers in independent schools are higher than in public schools for nearly all the questions included in the Swedish Schools Inspectorate’s survey, which is conducted in grades 5 and 9, as well as in the second year of upper secondary school.

There are independent preschools in 249 of the country's 290 municipalities, while there are independent elementary schools in 186 municipalities.
