Mother-tongue instruction – a key to better academic performance and greater equity

The government study on the impact of mother-tongue instruction on students’ academic performance and integration confirms that there is a positive correlation between participation in mother-tongue instruction and improved academic performance and greater success in entering the labor market. The findings are consistent with the experiences of Tellusgruppen's as a leading provider of mother-tongue instruction.

Students who participate in native language instruction perform better in school than those who do not; this is one of the conclusions of the government’s report, whichwas presented Fridayat a press conference.

“It is high time we view mother-tongue instruction as an educational resource rather than a political tool for promoting multiculturalism. By focusing on the importance of language development for students’ cognitive and academic success, we can improve academic performance for large groups of students and further strengthen the focus on learning in Swedish schools,” says Bijan Fahimi, CEO of Tellusgruppen.
 
The report also highlights the need to develop distance learning and digital solutions to address the teacher shortage and ensure equitable education throughout the country.
