Two of Tellus School's principals are being evaluated today

Today, principals Aurora Gabrielsson and Malin Frisk are completing a three-year program in the state-funded principal training program at Uppsala University. Aurora Gabrielsson is principal at Tellusskolan Thea Bromma (grades 7–9), and Malin Frisk is assistant principal at Tellusskolan Robinsonskolorna (grades F–5) in Enköping. Tellusgruppen congratulates Aurora and Malin and thanks them for their dedication and educational leadership for students and teachers at their schools.
The principal training program takes place alongside the regular duties of a school principal. The program combines coursework with lectures and peer learning alongside other principals from different schools.
Aurora Gabrielsson's thesis focused on the topic of Leadership for Inclusion.
“It has been very rewarding to gain insight through the principal training program into how different the conditions are for working at various schools and under different school authorities. One area I’ve focused on is creating a shared understanding among the entire teaching staff regarding our compensatory mission. Among other things, we’ve developed common lesson plans and teaching strategies. This creates a sense of security and predictability for all students. Really learning about school law has also been very educational,” says Aurora Gabrielsson.
Malin Frisk's thesis focused on the topic of student participation and influence in after-school programs.
“The Principals’ Program has been an incredibly rewarding
training experience that has provided knowledge and insight into the role of a principal. The
best part has been meeting other principals from
preschools, elementary schools, high schools, and adult education programs, and together broadening both
our perspectives and understanding. School law during my first year was my biggest
challenge, but at the same time it was incredibly educational and provided important and useful
knowledge. I’ve gained useful and valuable perspectives on my own
leadership. My focus this past year has been on the after-school program
and how we can increase students’ influence and participation in our teaching.
“We’re on a journey where we’re already seeing results: engaged
students who plan and lead activities, especially during recess,” says Malin Frisk.

“The structure of the principal training program allows participants to both deepen their knowledge and address the development issues they face in their day-to-day work. Uppsala University is one of seven institutions tasked with organizing the state-sponsored professional development program for school principals. The program consists of three years of part-time study and comprises three modules: School Law and the Exercise of Authority; Governance, Organization, and Quality; and School Leadership—Pedagogical Leadership. The program is equivalent to 30 higher education credits at the advanced level. It integrates school principals’ daily practice and proven experience with research and scholarly perspectives.
